Low carbon daylighting solutions for your metal building design

Hambleside Danelaw Ltd has been manufacturing in the UK for over 40 years. Branded Zenon®, we are the market leaders in developing environmentally conscious rooflight solutions to improve building energy performance and reduce the carbon footprint through the efficient and effective use of daylight. Both our in-plane and out of plane GRP (glass reinforced polyester) rooflights for the metal building envelope have been installed extensively and on projects such as B&Q, Wickes, Tesco distribution warehouses and Rolls Royce factories to name just a few.

Rooflights play a vital role in the modern building but are often are overlooked or not fully taken into account at the design stage. Here are just some of the key design considerations when thinking about rooflights within non-domestic buildings;

Health and well-being

Natural daylight is our most abundant and accessible natural resource. It sustains and supports the vast majority of life on Earth and is critical to our wellbeing. Natural daylight is associated with a whole range of positive effects on building occupants, from increased productivity and mental alertness to an improvement in general health.

Internal illuminance

The light that enters a building can either be direct light or diffused light. GRP rooflights are a naturally diffusing composite material effectively distributing daylight throughout the building interior, making effective use of the available daylight. This enhances the internal environment by significantly reducing localised areas of gloom and glare, minimising the creation of shadows and providing a safer work environment.

Energy saving

Making efficient use of natural daylight using rooflights reduces the need for artificial lighting systems. The cost of energy required to light a building through artificial lighting can be significantly more than that of the heat lost through the rooflights resulting in higher running costs and higher C02 emissions. Thinking about rooflights from the outset can minimise energy demands and deliver significant savings for the business.

Passing the test

Our BBA-certified range of Zenon in-plane rooflights is manufactured and CE marked in accordance with BS EN1013 to match all typical metal, aluminium and fibre cement profiles. We take our responsibility as a manufacturer very seriously and therefore all our products are rigorously tested to ensure compliance with regulations and best practice, such as fire and non-fragility. Our UK GRP production facility is BS EN ISO 9001 quality-certified and operates using a renewable energy source.

Lowering carbon

The Zenon Evolution range provides a stronger rooflight with a lower resin content making it the low carbon in-plane rooflight option. You can watch our impact test video showcasing the strength of Zenon Evolution here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUeTV5zR7Hk
